Speaking, Listening, Learning

with Southwark Excellence in Cities

This innovative six week module has been specifically designed to support the delivery of the DCSF Primary Framework for Teaching Literacy. Working in partnership with Southwark Excellence in Cities, this module is available free to Education Improvement Partnership full member schools (schools with 35% or more free school meals).

Through active engagement with Shakespeare, the module uses in-role work to develop students’ ability to engage the listener, talk confidently and evaluate what they hear. Practical activities will focus on students’ ability to share and value others’ ideas, identify key points and ask relevant questions to deepen their understanding of key characters and events. The module consists of 6 in-school sessions as well as 1 interactive tour/ workshop at the Globe and includes a CPD session for teachers.

First Steps Nursery Module

with Southwark Excellence in Cities

We have been working in early years settings since 2001, using Shakespeare’s stories to inspire creative learning and play with 3-5 year olds. This year we are drawing on The Tempest to explore relationships, emotions and self expression. The Globe is working with nursery teachers and children to explore the characters, settings and dilemmas that the character Ariel faces. Using role-play, interactive storytelling, games and play, this 6- week in-school module encourages creative and emotional engagement with the story and addresses important skills like sharing, respecting each other’s ideas and feelings as well as speaking and listening. This module includes a CPD session for teachers.

SEN Schools

This module is designed in consultation with each school to meet the specific needs of the participating class. It uses drama as a tool for emotional development and self discovery, linking directly to the work and focus of the class. The module consists of 6 weekly sessions of 90 minutes, or 5 in-school sessions and 1 session at the Globe, depending on the needs of the participating group.

Teacher Twilight Sessions

This module is designed to support the creative practice of teachers and teaching assistants in the classroom and involves 1 bespoke twilight session and 1 Globe Education event per term: both sessions are run in the evenings.

Twilight sessions are led by Globe Education Practitioners. They aim to enable teachers to develop sustainable, practical skills, exploring collaborative and creative approaches to learning. These informal classes are open to teachers from EIP Member schools: they are free of charge and accommodate a maximum of 20 teachers.

Globe Education Events are selected from ongoing events at the Globe and range from invitations to performances, to specialist lectures.

For more information please contact the Southwark Community Projects Team on 020 7902 1435 or email us.
