Our Theatre
Our Theatre
We are delighted to announce that Our Theatre 2009 will be King Lear and the performance will take place on Thursday 19th March at 1pm.
In late September 2008, schools were invited to apply to take part in the project, and groups of young people from 16 Southwark schools were selected to work with Globe Education Practitioners to produce an ensemble piece of theatre for the Globe Stage. Each participating school works with a Globe Education Practitioner on one scene from the play. During Globe Education sessions, participating students explore the play and devise and rehearse their scene for performance on the Globe stage. This programme of activities culminates with a full scale production on the Globe Stage attended by an audience of people who work, live or learn in Southwark.
Our Theatre teachers work in partnership with Globe Education Practitioners and play an important role within the project. The project aims to develop sustainable, practical skills through training days and ongoing support to develop the creative practice of teachers in Southwark schools. For the young people, Our Theatre develops key speaking and listening skills and inspires creativity through engagement with Shakespeare’s words at school and at the Globe. It aims to raise the confidence and self-esteem of students through active participation and positive experience.
