Southwark Summer University
Southwark Summer University
Globe Education is thrilled to announce that Southwark Summer University will be taking place at Shakespeare’s Globe again this summer. Southwark Summer University at Shakespeare’s Globe aims to put young people at the centre of creating a performance, enabling them to control how that is presented to family and friends at the end of the week.
Young people from across the Borough will spend 6 days working together as a Globe Theatre Company taking part in master classes, a question and answer session with an actor, a tour of the theatre, a workshop at the British Film Institute and will be able to watch a performance in the Globe Theatre.
These week-long residencies with the Globe will take place over two separate weeks for two different age groups:
Mon 28th July to Sat 2nd Aug – 11-14 years (Secondary age)
Mon 11th Aug to Sat 16th Aug – 14-18 years (Secondary age)
Shakespeare’s Globe will also be hosting two one day courses for 10-11 year olds based on Shakespeare’s rarely performed Timon of Athens. Over the course of a day, young people will be invited to discover what happens when Timon, a local wealthy celebrity, is left penniless and deserted by his friends. Participants will use their bodies and voices to physically explore this play, specifically the theme of selfishness. The workshop will include a visit to the Globe Theatre to see some of the season’s production of Timon of Athens.
Tuesday 5th August – 10-11 (Primary age)
Thursday 7th August – 10-11 years (Primary age)
